More than 80 EHFA members enjoyed two warm days at historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in September 2019. Those arriving early gathered for a Thursday dinner at The Pike Restaurant on Thursday, September 26th. On Friday, some of us toured the Shriver House while others went to the Gettysburg Heritage Center. Then we all had lunch at the Farnsworth House and listened to Civil War stories told by soldiers in period uniforms. After lunch we drove to the Eisenhower National Historic Site, the family farm, for a tour. What an idyllic spot for Mamie and “Ike” to retreat to from the White House and Washington D.C. Friday evening, the EHFA Banquet was memorable, featuring exclusive access to the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center. On Friday night, the Book Club met with leader Dr. Henry Gates on Thursday evening for a discussion of The Divided Family in Civil War America. The book gave us further insight into the difficutliesfaced by families during the Civil War. On Saturday, following our annual meeting, we had a guided bus tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield and more chances to chat and renew friendships. Kudos to Elizabeth Cooper for an exquistely planned reunion.
